District Judge Vargas dismissed Drake’s lawsuit against Universal Music Group, citing Kendrick Lamar’s diss track as a “non-actionable opinion” that is not defamatory.

A spokesperson for UMG expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, stating that the suit was an affront to artists’ creative expression and should never have been brought.

Drake’s representatives plan to appeal the ruling, with a statement indicating their intention to have the Court of Appeals review the decision.

The lawsuit stemmed from Lamar’s track “Not Like Us,” released during a rap battle, where both artists made incendiary accusations against each other, including Lamar calling Drake a “certified pedophile.”
