With Ellen DeGeneres under so much scrutiny lately, clips of an old interview with Mariah Carey started surfacing, in which Ellen tried to get her to admit she was pregnant, and in a new interview Mariah admits she was not at all happy with how the segment went down.
During the interview, Ellen challenged Mariah to drink champagne, suggesting that if she didn’t it would confirm she was pregnant. Turns out she was pregnant but shortly after suffered a miscarriage.
“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” Carey tells Vulture. “I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage.”
She adds, “I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment,” noting there’s “an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do?”
