Over 400 celebrities, including Oscar-winning actors and chart-topping pop stars, endorsed an open letter from the American Civil Liberties Union in support of Kimmel after his suspension from ABC following comments he made regarding Charlie Kirk’s death and President Donald Trump’s reaction to the fatal shooting.

The Walt Disney Company, ABC’s parent company, announced that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” will resume production and return to the airwaves after having thoughtful conversations with Kimmel.

The ACLU criticized the government’s involvement in Kimmel’s suspension, stating that he was “taken off the air after our government threatened a private company with retaliation for Kimmel’s remarks,” calling it a “dark moment for freedom of speech in our nation.”

The ACLU’s open letter was signed by numerous famous faces, including Jennifer Aniston, Selena Gomez, Olivia Rodrigo, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Rosie O’Donnell, and Kirsten Dunst.

Kimmel was sidelined by ABC after comments he made during his monologue, where he criticized the MAGA group’s response to Charlie Kirk’s death and President Trump’s reaction.

The show was put on indefinite hiatus following pressure from FCC chairman Carr, but Disney later announced its return on Tuesday (September 23).
