The lawsuit seeks $108 million in damages and claims that Meta’s tools enable users to steal Eminem’s work without proper attribution or license.
The filing specifies that Meta’s services, like Original Audio and Reels, allow for the unauthorized storage, reproduction, and exploitation of Eminem’s original compositions.
Eminem’s team aims to recoup losses due to the infringement, seeking maximum statutory damages of $150,000 for each of the 243 songs infringed upon on Meta’s platforms.
Meta has faced multiple copyright infringement claims from artists and music rights holders, with Swedish music company Epidemic Sound also suing Meta for at least $142 million in 2022 for hosting its tracks without licenses.
