Believe it or not, Des Moines, Iowa has not allowed trick-or-treating in over seven decades.
That is, until now.
This year, kids will be allowed to go door-to-door on Halloween with the rest of the country.
Before this, the town participated in “Beggars Night,” the night before Halloween.
This was established as an alternative to trick-or-treating in an effort to cut down on what was called “hooliganism.”
So, why the change?
Apparently, Des Moines had to cancel festivities due to heavy rain.
No word on if this will become a yearly tradition or if it is a one-time thing.
