Young Dolph was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee.

ABC Memphis affiliate WATN-TV confirms he died on Airways Blvd. in the city. He was shot outside of a shop where he often bought cookies. No information was released about suspects or a possible motive.

Memphis police confirm there was a fatal shooting at that location but have not yet publicly identified the victim, pending notification of next of kin. They’re also asking anyone with information on the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.

MTV tweeted, “We’re deeply saddened to learn that Memphis rapper Young Dolph has passed away as a result of a fatal shooting. His legacy in hip hop will live on through his beloved artistry.”

Born Adolph Thornton Jr., the 36-year-old rapper released seven studio albums, beginning with King of Memphis in 2016. His latest album, Dum and Dummer 2, with Key Glock, dropped on March 26 of this year. Dolph recorded four RIAA-certified Gold singles, including last year’s “RNB,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion.

Thornton was previously injured in a shooting in September 2017 in Los Angeles. No one was charged in that incident.
